St. Raphael 4, De La Salle 3 - May 7, 1951

Coach Barney Garrity's high-flying St. Raphael Academy baseball forces nosed out the De La Salle Crusaders of Newport yesterday at McCoy Stadium, 4-3, for their sixth consecutive Eastern Division victory to remain in the undefeated ranks.

As was the case in their last two games against East and West, Sophomore Fireman Paul Fiore was again the difference between victory and defeat. Fiore relieved started Bill Parenteau in the fifth with two on and none out. He got Jim Murrough to ground back to him while attempting to sacrifice, forcing Buzzy Butler at third. Fiore then got both Dan Ahearn and Bill Willis to hit routine flies to the outfield.

The Saints started things rolling in the second inning. Co-Capt. George Lovett singled, went to second on a wild pitch and to third on Chet Hanewich's single to center. Then, after two out, Lovett stole home as Hanewich was being run down between first and second.

The Crusaders tied the score in the fourth. Dan Ahearn singled to left, stole second and scored on Bill Willis' line shot between Dragon and Agostini. Parenteau avoided further trouble in the frame when he picked Willis off third after he had reached the far turn on Joe Dragon's error.

Saints Score Three

In their half of the fourth the Saints broke loose, three markers and taking the lead, 4-1. George Agostini started it by beating out a slow roller to short and Lovett singled sharply to center, sending Agostini to second.
